Our original Red Canoe Creative brand was patterned after paintings found on a slab of granite nestled deep in the northern wilderness of Minnesota. We find it compelling that artwork from ages ago can still reach an audience today. While the tools and styles of design have changed dramatically since those very crude images were created, the main purpose of design has remained the same -- the use of art to communicate. The pictographs are an example of what we want to embody at our core, original creative communication.
The real reason we are called Red Canoe, is because many years ago I used to restore old fiberglass canoes and them flip them for a profit. Red paint was the best option to cover up the ugly parts of old canoes.
Years later when I decided to start my own advertising and design company I realized I still had the Red Canoe business name registered with the state. So out of laziness... we became Red Canoe once again.
One of the original fiberglass red canoes still hangs above the entrance of our studio.
